March: In like a lion, out like a lamb
This past month, Gilbane Corp. averaged approximately 30-35 workers on site daily at 48 Boylston Street, with the majority of the workmanship consisting of demolishing the building interiors on floors 1-5.
What’s going on inside?

Contractors will continue demolition, working on miscellaneous items throughout the building, including the sub-basement and basement spaces. In addition, pipe-fitters, plumbers and tin knockers removed all of the existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems throughout the building.
Contractors have begun structural reinforcement on the upper floors, and continue working on connecting stairs from the 4th to 5th floors.
They have also begun lay out on the upper floors, which means that the construction workers are setting up where the new walls will go. Each floor is now transforming from what used to be a warren of office cubicles into apartment units!
What’s coming up?

This April, we will finish up demolition on the lower floors, along with framing layout on the remaining floors. Some floors will be configured into apartments, while other floors will be configured into administrative space for St. Francis House staff members.
Additionally, we also anticipate taking down the rear portion of the building. This will become a staging area for heavy construction equipment and building materials.
Stay tuned for more information next month!
