A Word of Thanks

Thank you to these individuals, organizations, and companies for their generous donations of time, materials, and talent:

Men’s Wearhouse, for partnering with us for its 5th annual National Suit Drive. Throughout July, stores across eastern Massachusetts collected men’s and women’s suits, shirts, jackets, and pairs of slacks. This clothing will benefit MAP students as they build or change careers.

Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, for giving the keynote address at our 5th annual Women’s Day of Renewal. Ms. Pressley spoke about her own struggles and triumphs as a woman of color and urged our female guests to remember that “you are good, you are worthy, you are loved.”

The Friends of Frank, for hosting two Race to the Finish Line cocktail fundraisers to support the efforts of our 2012 Boston Marathon runners: Chris Hunter, Carleen Tucker, Shannon Massey, and Sarah Nelson. The two events raised nearly $3,000. Special thanks to Chris, Carleen, Shannon, and Sarah, who trained for weeks and persevered despite sweltering heat to complete 26.2 miles on behalf of St. Francis House. This amazing team also raised $32,816 – with help from their friends and family members – exceeding their goal by $7,816. We can’t thank them enough.

The North End Friends of St. Francis House, for hosting their 8th annual flea market and bake sale. The two-day event raised $18,050. Thanks to all who donated baked goods and market items, and to the Nazzaro Community Center for donating the space. Special thanks to Mary and Frank Romano for making their delicious homemade sandwiches, and to Olivia Scimeca, Kathy Carangelo, and John, Patricia, Johnny, and Christopher Romano, for planning, organizing, and running the event.

7 NEWS WHDH TV and Boston University Athletics, for organizing clothing drives to benefit St. Francis House.

St. John the Evangelist Parish, in Wellesley, for holding its annual spring clothing drive. Their efforts, along with dozens of other churches, help us meet our guests’ ongoing need for clothing.

Eyeblink, for hosting a pizza party for our guests on June 23, as part of their annual event, A Slice of Hope, which is held at homeless shelters nationwide. Musician Kevin Jones drove 200 miles to perform for our guests.

Susan Ho, a longtime volunteer in our kitchen and founder of Good Neighbor Concierge, for making a donation to St. Francis House every time a new client uses her services.

The Boston Bruins, for sending four Ice Girls – Mariana, Amy, Samantha, and Ashley – to help us serve Irish stew on St. Patrick’s Day.

James Edwards, for photographing our Founder’s Appreciation Event.

All of our dedicated volunteers, who help us serve nearly 300,000 meals and distribute thousands of sets of clothing each year. Volunteers also help MAP students prepare for job interviews and prepare their taxes.

St. Francis House is so fortunate to have your support.
