St. Francis House hosted our Annual Advocacy Breakfast on Wednesday, February 6 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM in Nurses Hall at the Massachusetts State House.
The breakfast event was an opportunity for our State Senators and Representatives to learn about the ways we help people regain their dignity and rebuild their lives, with a special focus on our Sullivan Family Moving Ahead Program. The speaking program included our 3rd Suffolk District Representative Aaron Michlewitz and our State Senator Joseph Boncore. Both men spoke of the work they have seen firsthand changing lives at St. Francis House. Many legislators and their aides dropped in for the hour-long program.
Additional speakers included Wendy Lauser, St. Francis House Associate Director of Workforce Development and Neil Sullivan from the Boston Private Industry Council. Both stressed the importance of providing support systems and removing barriers for employment. Keven, a MAP graduate and alumnus, spoke on the personal influence the program had in his life and the essential role the program played in his employment search.
At the conclusion of the event, Karen LaFrazia urged attendees to visit their legislators and talk to them about the work of the Moving Ahead Program. Many of the current Moving Ahead program students were able to speak directly to their representatives regarding the life-changing work of the program.
