This year we mark One Boston Day on April 15, teaming up with John Hancock to hold a city-wide sneaker drive and you can help.
As the City of Boston celebrates One Boston Day, we invite you to mark the day with St. Francis House. One Boston Day is an annual opportunity for businesses, organizations, and individuals to join together in celebrating the generosity of the Boston community.
Building off our successful shoe drive last year, we are partnering again with John Hancock for a sneaker drive to benefit our Fresh Threads department which distributes 3,000 pairs of shoes every year, unable to meet the full demand from those in need.
There will be collection bins strategically placed throughout Boston on One Boston Day, Sunday, April 15, 2018.
We thank you for your engagement and support in helping St. Francis House provide the resources for our guests to rebuild their lives.

The talk around Boston during the marathon season is John Hancock, the major sponsor of the most iconic race on Earth – the Boston Marathon – and a huge participant in all the citywide events that weekend. In 2017 they teamed up with St. Francis House for some special events around One Boston Day, April 15, which made for a very memorable race weekend.
Internal sneaker drive and donation
From Banner Day to Boston Marathon Monday, all offices hosted a sneaker drive to benefit our Fresh Threads clothing program.
CEO Craig Bromley donated $5.00 per pair of sneakers donated by employees, and when the count was complete, the 1,787 pairs of sneakers collected brought in a whopping $8,935 for St. Francis House.
External shoe collection with elite athletes taking part
In addition, they helped spearhead a city-wide drive for the Boston community to participate, with collection boxes stationed in several public locations, including Boston City Hall. On One Boston Day, an outdoor collection box was placed near the Hynes Convention center and Marathon Finish Line where BAA runners received their marathon packets. These locations brought in an additional 2,400 pairs of shoes and sneakers for our guests! A highlight of this public collection drive was the elite marathon runners donating their “fastest shoes on earth” to St. Francis House.
“One Boston Day signifies the best of Boston,” said Tom Crohan, AVP & Counsel, John Hancock Financial. “We are proud to once again partner with the City of Boston and St. Francis House to help provide sneakers to men and women in need. It is a simple act of kindness that can have a big impact.”
John Hancock sponsored a citywide sneaker drive
Our Fresh Threads department distributes several thousand pairs of shoes every year to guests in need. The outpouring of community support was overwhelming, with 1,000 pairs of sneakers collected! John Hancock also donated $10,000 to purchase additional pairs of sneakers.
