Moving Ahead Program graduates Class 172

Class 172 MAP graduates

Our Moving Ahead Program (MAP) is an important part of our larger Workforce Development program.  When the graduation day finally arrives, it is a special occasion for our students.  It’s the conclusion of 14 weeks of computer training, mock interviewing, workforce document creating and job searching. To celebrate, we welcome the family and friends of our students to join in the commencement followed by a catered lunch.  On Friday, June 22nd, we added 11 new Alumni to our ever-growing network, and celebrated our instructor Paul’s first graduating class!

Words from the podium

St. Francis House instructor Paul gave the audience insight into his first class, sharing with everyone about the growth he witnessed in each student over the course of the program and his hope that they will continue to use their new found confidence to make positive changes in their own lives, and in each other’s lives. The graduates reiterated that sentiment, speaking about significant shifts in their attitude and their outlook on life, about their new sets of skills, the connections they built with their classmates, and exciting opportunities that lie ahead.

Our graduate Michael summed it up best, stating: “It’s no longer ‘It is what it is’, it’s ‘It is what I make of it’”, reinforcing the idea that they are each in control of their own futures, and inspiring the students in the audience to follow their example.
