St. Francis House is deeply grateful to state Rep. Aaron Michlewitz for his leadership and hard work on behalf of St. Francis House. Rep. Michlewitz, whose district includes Chinatown, the Financial District, and the South End, spearheaded the effort to secure $50,000 in state funding for the Moving Ahead Program.
The money will make it possible for 10 people to enroll in the 14-week vocational education program, which teaches vital life and business skills. “I’m so thankful for Rep. Michlewitz’s vision and his deep understanding of the challenges our guests face as they work to rebuild their lives and re-enter the workforce,” says Karen LaFrazia, Executive Director. “MAP provides the kind of training people need to find and maintain employment.” Rep. Michlewitz began advocating for MAP last spring and rallied support on both sides of the aisle.
In July, Governor Deval Patrick approved the budget. “Many, many thanks to Rep. Michlewitz and the entire legislature for their support,” says Karen. “Sen. Anthony Petruccelli advocated for MAP in the Senate, and I appreciate his efforts on our behalf.”
