Every year, St. Francis House holds an appreciation event to thank members of our Founder’s Society for their extraordinary leadership support. Our 2014 event, on June 5, also featured a panel discussion about the innovative partnership between MAP and CVS Caremark.
This new partnership provides 8- to 12-week internships at a training facility (a mock CVS store) in Downtown Boston. There, students learn important retail skills and have the chance to master a particular role in a supportive environment. Participants also bolster their resumes, which is crucial for those with gaps in their employment history. “CVS is committed to investing in the community,” said Mike Chamberlain, Field Colleague Trainer, during the panel discussion. Mike works with MAP students like Krystal, who completed an internship last winter and is now a full-time CVS employee.
“This job has been life-changing,” she told the audience. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity.” Nicholi McLaughlin, Employment Services Supervisor of MAP, developed the partnership with CVS as part of MAP’s overall strategy to prepare students for the workforce and help them find meaningful opportunities. “Corporate partners prepare students for employment and help them build confidence,” she said. “Companies also have clearly de ned career ladders, making it easier to advance.”
