Ty Hapworth started running distance when he joined the Army in 2005 after graduating from college. He notes, “this running was not by choice.” Ty served for three years as an Army officer, and when he got out of the Army, he stopped running. Four years later, Ty was managing the Microsoft Store in the Prudential Center during the Marathon bombing.
“While all of my team and customers got out safely to Huntington Avenue, I was affected by what happened on that day, and for whatever reason, I decided to start running again. To put it in technology terms, running feels like a “factory reset” for my body, no matter what I’m stressed about or what is happening, I always feel right after a run.”
Ty’s Involvement at St. Francis House
Ty is volunteers at St. Francis House through his work with Microsoft. He loves that “his company promotes inclusiveness in everything we do. From the technology we build to how we treat our customers, community and Associates. I truly believe that everyone needs to find purpose at work, and I find that every day with Microsoft.”
Ty’s life in Salem
Ty runs in Salem, Massachusetts where he lives with his wife Micah and two children. (Aren’t they cute?) He met his wife in 6th grade, and they dated in high school and married after college. Ty often takes photographs of the amazing beauty of Salem while out for his runs. Through this convergence of outdoor runs and photography his Instagram feed @hellosalem has over 3000 followers from around the world. In addition, he has been featured by Creative Salem and @igermassachusetts.

Maybe one day soon we’ll catch him out running in his St. Francis House hat.
