Volunteer appreciation event at Maggiano’s

Volunteer dinner

On Tuesday, April 24th, over 80 volunteers and staff gathered at Maggiano’s Little Italy to celebrate the work that volunteers do to further the mission of St. Francis House. Volunteers allow us to provide the refuge and pathways to stability that are critical to helping guests rebuild their lives. April is National Volunteer Month, and represents a perfect opportunity for us to reflect on the contributions of time that make our work possible.

Collectively, the volunteers that were in attendance have donated a staggering 21,465 hours of their time to St. Francis House in all their years of service, demonstrating an enormous commitment to our work and to our guests. They represent a piece of the larger team of individuals who prepare and serve meals, distribute clothing, sort and inspect donations, provide support in the Resource Center, help guests apply for housing, and more.

The Program

President & CEO Karen LaFrazia thanked volunteers for their time, reminding them of the impact their effort on our guests. Ashley Medlar, Volunteer Services Coordinator, shared personal testimonials and messages of thanks that guests had passed along for the evening. You can read their words here in the photos below.  She ended the speaking program by reminding volunteers, “Lives are easier because you are here.”
