Behavioral Health

St. Francis House is committed to supporting the behavioral health of all our guests.

Our Behavioral Health team understands the complex issues our guests are facing and provide a wide variety of tools and services to help them move toward stability in all aspects of life. Starting at our lobby desk, we work with each guest to assess and determine their needs and appropriately connect them to programming and services integrated right at our 39 Boylston St. location. Our multilingual, multicultural case managers and clinicians invest in building stable, trusting relationships and emphasize autonomy and self-determination at each step of a guest’s journey. That foundation empowers guests to make positive changes.

Case Management

Our team of case managers pro-actively engage with day shelter guests, many of whom are in recovery or managing substance use issues, have mental health needs, complex legal histories, chronic homelessness, and trauma. We invite our guests to work with us to create individualized goals around housing, behavioral health, and income maximization.

Access Clinicians

Our Access Clinicians are licensed mental health clinicians, who are available to triage and support on demand clinical treatment referrals, behavioral health crisis interventions, or case management services for guests who need more flexible support due to their instability.

Day Treatment

Our day treatment program, Seeds of Change, serves guests navigating substance use disorders and mental health issues. The Seeds of Change program runs in 4-week intervals and is staffed by licensed mental health clinicians. The program uses a low barrier approach, to provide individual and group counseling, and ongoing clinical support, which offers our guests a structured, dual-diagnosis treatment opportunity right in the hub of where they access other services. Our approach takes into account the unique complexities of homelessness and co-occurring disorders.

Carolyn Connors Women’s Center

The number of women seeking help at St. Francis House is increasing and is one of the fastest-growing groups among the unhoused population. Women experiencing homelessness are at an especially high risk for violence and nearly all of those who seek shelter here are survivors of trauma and abuse. Inside our Carolyn Connors Women’s Center, guests find a safe, welcoming, and supportive space. Designed as a comfortable, cozy lounge, the Center is dedicated to meeting everyone’s unique needs. Each day guests come here to support and inspire one another as they begin to take steps to rebuild their lives.
