At St. Francis House, we welcome several hundred individuals each day—offering food, shelter, clothing, and a comprehensive path forward for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. We’re proud to be New England’s largest day shelter, open 365 days a year in the heart of downtown Boston.
While the majority of our guests are men, the women who walk through our doors often face especially difficult and deeply personal challenges. Many are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other forms of trauma. And all too often, their experiences are overlooked or underserved by traditional systems of care.
That’s why every May, in honor of Women’s Health Awareness Month, we host a deeply meaningful event: Women’s Day at St. Francis House.
Women’s Day, held on Friday May 29th, is a celebration of resilience, healing, and dignity. It’s a day created just for our female guests—a chance for them to feel seen, cared for, and celebrated in ways they may not have experienced in years.
The day begins with a warm and welcoming brunch. From there, guests are invited to enjoy a range of uplifting activities, including:
-
A yoga class
-
Nail care and pampering
-
A boutique-style “shopping” experience for complimentary clothing and accessories
-
A jewelry-making workshop
It’s a day that brings joy, beauty, and compassion into the lives of female guests who carry heavy burdens—and who often do so in silence.
You can help make this year’s Women’s Day truly special.
A gift of any amount will help us provide the health, hygiene, and beauty items that support our guests’ well-being and uplift their spirits.
Or, if you prefer, you can purchase items directly from our Amazon Wish List to help stock our boutique with everything from lipstick to lotion.
Thank you for helping us honor their strength, their health, and their dignity.
