How long have you been with St. Francis House? What is your role?
I am one of the Guest Engagement Liaisons here at St. Francis House. As of January 22, 2022, I’ve been working here for ten years. I first began as a member on the CES Team and quickly moved into housing. I also worked with the Emergency Solutions Grant for 5 years. My responsibilities include but are not limited to staying updated with resources and information for the guests and acting as a liaison to help navigate how to access the services they need.
Is there anything about your job that you find challenging and how do you work through it?
What I find most challenging about my job are the times I do not have an answer for a guest, and they leave empty handed after coming to seek help. I often find myself spending time asking questions about the details of our services and new initiatives we are working on. There are times when guests may come in looking for a voucher for your state ID and end up leaving with health insurance and a primary care provider.
What part of your job do you enjoy most?
The part of my job I enjoy the most is greeting guests first thing in the morning with a simple “Morning Darling”. It makes me smile to see how many of them greet me the same way. I also enjoy sharing encouraging words when things seem down and out, or being their biggest cheerleader when things start coming together. The look of gratitude for simply being acknowledged as an individual and not their situation (especially when they feel as though the world has given up on them) is indescribable.
