Celebrating Our Female-Identifying Guests: A Day of Empowerment and Self-Care

St. Francis House’s annual Women’s Day event on May 17th, 2024 was not just a celebration, but a powerful testament to the resilience and strength of the female and non-binary individuals we serve. Through a variety of activities aimed at empowerment and self-care, we created a space where every guest could feel valued and supported.

Our event offered a range of activities catered to both the physical and emotional well-being of our guests, starting with a brunch in our dining hall. Self-care activities like yoga, manicures, and face masks provided a much-needed opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation in a safe and nurturing environment.

One of the highlights (and most popular activities) of the day was our clothing boutique, where women could browse through a selection of clothing items and accessories. Various arts & crafts projects were available for staff and guests alike, including tote bag decorating and a charm bracelet station. Throughout the day, our workforce development team also assisted guests with job applications, helping them make well-informed decisions about their career goals.

But perhaps the most powerful aspect of our Women’s Day event was the sense of solidarity it brought to our community. In a world where women so often face systemic barriers and discrimination, coming together in a supportive environment served as a reminder to our guests that they are supported, seen, and not alone in their struggles. Thank you to our wonderful Women’s Center Coordinator, Dani, for organizing such a fantastic event, and thank you to all our staff for participating! We can’t wait for next year’s event!
